After a month of Medifast food, I decided I really don't like it. Don't get me wrong, it's great for some people, but not for me. I did lose 5 lbs in the first week, and another 5 in the couple weeks following. So it does work! But..... it didn't jive with my philosophy on food. Ben and I don't eat junk food. We don't have soda, or sugary cereal, or candy in our home. The only "junk food" Ben and I have are breads and pasta, which often go stale before we can use all of it. So in some ways I felt like I was going backwards. Medifast has foods like mac and cheese, crunch bars, pretzel sticks... All things I don't usually eat. I felt like my taste buds were learning to crave junk food, instead of want good, wholesome food. So it would be great for someone who doesn't eat real food and needs to take the transition steps.
So, I splurged and paid the $15 for a Whole 30 membership. I need to train my taste buds to want veggies, something seriously lacking in my diet now. If any of my sisters want to tag along, feel free. My start date is March 17.

ReplyDeleteAlso I was planning on doing it after my marathon. Right now I really need the carbs. :)
DeleteYeah, Josh is waiting until after the marathon, so I figure I might as well wait, rather than have to cook so many different foods for my family.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I've cut out dessert, and now I'm on a hunt to cut out even more sugar (like yogurt, etc). I'm thinking of taking dairy out as my next step, but I do like to cook with milk. Anyway, I'm hoping that these baby steps will make it that much easier when I do the official Whole 30. I really want to know what you think about it all, though. I'm still waiting for the book to come from the library. There's a wait. I think I'm 10th in line. I think you should post a little daily record of what you ate and how you felt.
Good luck!
