Rant
We're not going to die! I'm getting so tired of my liberal friends saying that the sequestration is going to be bad news. First off, it was freaking Obama's idea! Second, we're hardly (if at all) going to notice a difference. Federal spending will STILL be more than it was last year, or the year before. So stop your complaining!
Politico did a fantastic article on Obama's BIG ASSUMPTIONS. Basically, he's trying to create hype and get everyone all worried so he can swoop in and save the day. "TSA lines will be longer!" Because the TSA was known for it's speedy service... Not.
Obama is Lying about Sequestration
Politicians love to paint the picture that if any funding is lost in education it will be the teachers and students hit the hardest. Give me a break. A recent study from the Friedman Foundation looked at the hiring practices of 21 states. There are plenty of administrators. "In Texas, for example, taxpayers would have saved more than $6 billion annually if school hiring of nonclassroom employees hadn’t outpaced students, the study says. Instead, the number of Texas students increased by 37 percent from 1992 to 2009, while the number of nonteaching personnel shot up by 172 percent, nearly five times as fast, according to the report." Don't tell me you can't find some ways to save money without losing teachers. I can think of a few ways just off the top of my head...
More Admins Than Teachers
The fact is, our government spends way more than they need to. This little sequestration isn't going to do a whole lot to fix anything. Serious cuts need to happen, and some tax increases as well (for everyone, not just the wealthy).
My prediction: our country is going to have to collapse Soviet Style before people understand that government needs to stay within it's basic functions. It cannot supply our incomes and take care of our day to day needs. We are warned over and over again in each General Conference that government is trying to replace the family. I take increased government spending as a sign they are doing just that, replacing the family. Why else would we need all the welfare and healthcare programs? To replace the family.
Sidenote: I've had several people ask why Ben and I are not on WIC, including complete strangers at the grocery store. And the one thing they always say is "It's there, and it's free!" I don't want to get into that mindset. That I can care for my family without taking any real responsibility. I enjoy taking care of James and purchasing his food. I feel like I'm really fulfilling my role as his mother by being the provider of all his needs. Getting free food at someone else's expense feels like thievery to me. Granted, James and I are on OHP, but I'm thinking about dropping it for me because it doesn't cover any of the things I'm interested in, like chiropractic care and my visits to a nutritional doctor. So I'm paying $18 a month for nothing. OHP is there for a reason, and it should be used to help those who really need it, and it should be temporary.
