As far as getting to Aurora, this is what our plan is so far:
On Thursday, February 12, Ben will pick up the U-Haul truck in the morning. I have arranged to have a couple teenagers from the ward help me do the final deep clean of the house. Then in the evening I will go pick up Jed and Denise from the OKC airport. On Friday we load up the remainder of our furniture, tidy up a little bit, and drive about four hours to Ellis, KS. We are having Jed and Denise come out because they will be driving the U-Haul truck. Benjamin and I will each drive our own vehicles. On Saturday the 14th, we drive to Aurora and we will stay at the hotel at Buckley Air Force Base. We will need to put our stuff in storage for a little while if we don't have a house by then. We're really hoping to have a house when we show up in Aurora, but when we moved to Enid we stayed in a hotel on base for four weeks. So if we need to do it again, we know we can.
I can hardly believe the movies coming up in just a couple of weeks. I thought I had more time than that!
We considered buying a house in Aurora because to rent is just so expensive, but we just don't have the money to buy a house. And we started to feel uncomfortable with the idea of getting stuck in a house with almost no savings. So were sticking to the plan of renting, and doing it as cheaply as possible.
If any of you feel like it, you can always do a little research on Denver for me. With the move coming up so fast, I've hardly had time to do any research of things to do. I know that there's at least four Whole Foods stores, and three Targets. Anytime I go online, it's to look for houses and other practical things. Not so much looking for fun things to do.
Ben has briefly talked to someone that works in his future office. He said his office is very small, but part of a larger squadron. If you were to look at Buckley Air Force Base on Google earth, Ben will be working underneath the "golf balls". I know it has something to do with infrared imaging. Apparently, his job is very classified. He will not even be allowed to take his cell phone into work. If I need to reach him, I will have to call a special phone number. And he will only be allowed to tell me very limited information about what he does at work. There might be some travel involved, but we don't know the specifics of that yet.
So that's what's going on these days. Benjamin and I were released from our Cub Scout calling, and I have passed on my Officer Spouse Club duties.
James is really excited to move to Colorado. He often says "we're going to Colorado!" whenever we get into the car. And he regularly tells strangers that we're going to Colorado. He definitely notices all the changes happening in our house leading up to this move. But is handling it like a champ.
