Jed and Denise were here for the weekend. It was great to have them visit. Their flight to OKC was cancelled, so they ended up renting a car and driving here. We picked them up in Stillwater. James was completely shocked to see his Nona again. We spent time showing them around the base, going to a Memorial Day service at the local airport, visiting the Heritage Museum here in Enid, and having a BBQ.
We all decided James was a little too young to go back to CO with them. He talks so well, that it can be deceiving. We just couldn't picture him being okay being in a new place without me there. James is super attached to me around unfamiliar people, and although he adores Jed and Denise, he would have a hard time being away from me for so long.
We bought a bed from a family that lives on base a couple days before they arrived. So if anyone feels like coming out for a visit, we have a very comfortable bed for you! *hint hint
Ben is fully into the academic phase of training. This lasts about 8 weeks, and is the relatively easy part of training. Today James and I watched him and his classmates go through the compression chamber. The beginning wasn't so bad. They experienced some symptoms like feeling hot, nauseous, tingly, etc. The second test was a littler more interesting. It simulates the experience of opening your cockpit in the air. There is a loud pop and everyone jumps. Some guys jumped a *little* higher than others, and that was pretty funny to watch.
In a few weeks Ben will start on the flight line. Things are going to get really busy for him. We've enjoyed having him come home early most days, but that will all be ending soon. I've been told that I pretty much run the house by myself, and just enjoy what time he is home. Soon he will have 12 hour days and a busy class/flight schedule, which will eventually include night flights and flying to other airports for a few days. It's going to be a busy year, and when we look back we'll realize how fast it flew by us.
James and I are keeping busy. Playgroups are being switched around a bit due to summer schedules. The library stopped story time for a few weeks, and our indoor playroom where playgroup was help is closing down for June. Our mommy and me bible study book club is deciding on a new book to read, and also has a new leader.
Ben and I also have a joint calling. We are the new Bear Leaders in Sub Scouts. It's certainly going to be interesting for us. Ben will be too busy to do much prep work, and may not even be able to attend most of the activities. I'll either have to bring James will me, or get a babysitter. So I need to talk to the Primary Pres, and see if they can call me an assistant.
Sounds like you're busy enough! The phrase "how fast it flew by us" - was that pun intended? Hilariously true!
ReplyDeleteNot intentional, which looking back makes is more fun.
DeleteAlso, you and I talked about the possibility of us going to South Korea. I hear there is a pilot and his family who flew the A-10 (Ben's top choice) and lived there for several years. You betcha I'm going to be asking them all sorts of questions!
