Lame Sauce

Zumba is no more. At least not at the location it was previously held. My friend and instructor was let go because she is Mormon, and because we had class at a church activity center, that is perfectly legal. I'm not even annoyed that they fired her because she's Mormon, I'm annoyed at the way they did it. The Activity Directors wife tried to explain to us that day why they made the decision to let my instructor go. "You guys are so happy. If I didn't already have a church, I would be asking you where you guys go to church." So they are trying to eliminate any competition. Fine, I get that too. But as I was getting my card punched after the last class, the older ladies were getting ready to go upstairs to their Zumba Gold class. The lady at the counter blatantly lied. "Oh, Jen isn't here today. There will be no Zumba class today." I had just come from class, so obviously there IS a teacher upstairs. Poor Jen had wanted to say goodbye to her friends, and had brought doughnuts for everyone. She told me later she just hung out in the room with those that did come chatted.

Jen is somewhat looking forward to the change. She said she had been praying for a way to feel less busy and frazzled all the time. She didn't want it to be that Zumba class, but if that is the Lords plan, she will accept it. She's looking forward to sleeping in a few days a week this Summer and just spending more time with family.

Bishop mentioned that story on Sunday and read a scripture about the prophets experiencing persecution. He said we have problems even in the "Garden of Enid." 3rd week in a row he has made that joke.

I'm just thankful that so far, I haven't experienced anything that severe. Sure, people have misunderstandings and preconceived notions about the church, but so far I've had really good conversations that hopefully corrected those. But I know that as times goes on it may get harder and harder to stand apart from the world and face that ridicule.
