I'm a (future) mom, I'm a political advocate, and I'm a Mormon

I've been on a "I'm a Mormon" video kick since yesterday after one of my facebook friends posted something negative about the church. I took L. Tom Perry's council to "not hesitate to add your voice to these conversations" and remember that "we should appreciate and approach such conversations with Christlike love. Our tone, whether speaking or writing, should be respectful and civil, regardless of the response of others. We should be honest and open and try to be clear in what we say. We want to avoid arguing and becoming defensive in any way."

I've always had a hard time not getting flustered and annoyed by misconceptions about the Church. "How can people say such things? If they just did a little research they would see how it really it, instead of passing judgement."

I responded to my friends post of facebook, and he actually told me that he thought I explained it well and that he wasn't sure where some of Stephen Colbert's information came from.

I started watching the video's because even after my friends positive comment, I still needed a little pick-me-up. Somehow in the hormonal craziness of my brain, Stephen Colbert led to my frustration with people not accepting my choice to be a mom now. Almost every time I tell someone I'm pregnant, they say, "Oh that's so exciting, but what about SCHOOL?" As if that were the most important thing I could ever do with my life. As if school is the only place I can learn. Forget books, forget the Internet, I have to be in a classroom to actually be a real person.

I'm beginning to view motherhood as a real privilege now. I GET to me a mom! I can still have goals and dreams that don't always involve kids, but my understanding of how everything fits together is becoming much clearer. I really can do it all. I definitely have dreams of being in the political sphere one way or another. I never wanted to hold a high position, like in Congress, but I wanted to be park of some non-profit or advocacy group. I can do those things and be a mother at the same time.
