Future Plans: What Will They Be?

I've always loved Corvallis and OSU, but I think it's about time I went somewhere else for school. I plan on finishing my AA here, but with only about two terms left, it's time to start looking at other school to attend. For some reason I am really not interested in attending a church school. My main concern when it comes to school is not location, but cost. I found a website called myplan.com that helps you find schools based on a number of different criteria. Mom mentioned University of Southern Virginia as a good school because it's basically one step away from being a church school. I checked it out, and tuition costs are not bad at all. I'm really liking this one right now. Check out that Admissions Building!

Just something I've started to think about a little more now that my AA is almost done.

  1. I always thought that school looked good. FYI though, to disregard church schools and say you're basing your interests on tuition costs is an oxymoron. Brian and I would never had had a penny in student loans if we'd stayed at BYUI, compared to our 50,000 for FINISHING at other schools (imagine if we'd each attended the other schools to begin with!)

  2. I know I know, but for some reason I really have no interest in church schools. I'm wondering what kind of conduct rules SVU has. No beards? Curfews?

  3. Emily Ralphs went to SVU (her brother Dan was a friend of mine...) and she LOVED it. I was really impressed with her growth when I talked to her after she came back. I'll see if I can find out more of what she thought about it.

Church schools are seriously the best bargain out there. Josh and I have just been wishing we lived closer to BYU because of all the great options. Dev, they had General Petraus out to speak! Wouldn't that have been cool to hear him? I think sometimes people disregard church schools because it seems so standard and they want to try something different. But the reason it's so "standard" is because it's one of the best options for LDS people - both educationally AND financially.

  4. Although from what I read, college for college's sake isn't worth the cost of the degree. If you need a degree for your chosen field, then you need to plow through as quickly as you can and GET a JOB. If your degree doesn't lead you to a particular career then you are going to find it to be kind of useless, unless it's really a basic degree such as business. Julia majored in Family Science and she can't do a single thing (other than be a mom) with that degree. To get any job she'd have to go back to school for at least some training.
