Yesterday was my birthday! It was an extremely busy day for me. Stake Womens Conference was held over two days, the 26-27. So I was helping set tables and decorations and then helped with the take-down after the conference. I didn't leave the Stake Center until 1:30. I dropped off some extra food from the conference at a house that 8 men from my ward share. They could always use some free goodies. Then it was off to my apartment to work on a term paper for my Religions class, which I decided my paper would be comparing religious authoritative figures in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I'm so close to being finished, just the concluding paragraph and I can email it off to my teacher! While working on my paper I received a phone call from my friend Erik asking me to come over to his house because he had a gift for me. He sounded suspicious, especially because he needed me to come over NOW, and I kept hearing balloons pop from Jill's room across the hall.
Erik only had a box of brownie mix for me, nothing too special. He just needed me out of my apartment so Jill, Jessie and Ryan could sneak in and fill it three feet high with balloons they had written messages on and hanging streamers from the ceiling. They also fixed my pillows to look like a body in my bed and placed a note in the balloon that was the bodies head (is it creepy to do that for someones birthday?). I was sort of expecting the balloons, because I had heard them popping, but I still exclaimed an "Oh crap!" when I opened my door because of the sheer number of balloons. I read a few of the messages, some of which make no sense at all and do not pertain to my birthday in any way, including: "You are not stupid, You are SMART!" "Ninja Balloon wishes you a Happy Birthday!" "You're so cool that I'm flipping out over. Please laugh, Jill didn't think it was funny" "We heart you hard core." and one that had listed on it Jessie's future baby names (Felix? really Jessie?). Jill, Jessie and Ryan were nowhere to be found in the apartment, so I took my computer to the living room to work on my term paper again. Yeah, I'm just that darn much of a party animal.
Around 8pm people starting knocking on my door. Jessie showed up a little later with a yellow cake. It had the weirdest decorations on it: flags, a plastic rose, and a gorilla? SO RANDOM! But the calligraphy looked good. We lit the candles while I was sitting on the couch, holding the cake - our apartment is not compliant with any safety laws.
I should probably share some of the gifts I received from Jessie. She has the best presents because of how useful, yet creative they are. Each item had a sticky note on it with a message.
Dish drainer "Because 20 year olds have a lot of STRAIN"
Foot scrub "Because 20 year olds do mani-pedi's"
Sewing kit "20 year olds need to fix holes in their CROTCH"
Scented trash bags "Because 20 somethings buy random cool things like these"
Painting "Because 20 year olds buy cool ART"
p.s. my pants have never had a hole in the crotch area
So that was my birthday, there was some celebrating on Sunday. I went to the parents for dinner and Shannon, Bryan, Heather, Brian, Brennan and Asher came for red-velvet-strawberry-ice-cream-cake (when is the proper time to use dashes?). The cake is DELICIOUS! Lucky for me I've got three pieces left in my freezer, and some good tortellini spinach salad from dinner.
Cards from the grandparents and mom and dad. I got a nifty cherry blossom scented hand lotion and sanitizer from Shannon and Bryan. All around, it was a really fun birthday!
I'm wondering how long Jill and I will keep the balloons in our living room? There where much much more. Sadly my friend who we refer to as Lil' Kathy accidentally popped some while writing more messages on them.
"Have a Mick Jaggerin Birthday!"
