I've been trying different skincare products for years. I've spent plenty of dough on high end products, and am currently trying a homemade skincare routine (I wash twice, once with honey then with basking soda and powdered oatmeal. moisturize with coconut oil). I love using the coconut oil as a moisturizer because for the first time, my skin does not get super shiny or still feel lacking in hydration. The honey, baking soda and oatmeal don't seem to be doing all the much. In fact, I have a philosophy that you should be as gentle on your skin as possible, and the baking soda feels too rough for me. I think that exfoliation should be more like dissolving the dead skin, rather than rubbing it off.
Like most, my skin does not fit into just one category, so I know I will have to cherry pick products. I get spots like a teenager, but my skin can also get so dry that it hurts to make any kind of facial expression. Unless I use the coconut oil, but even then, my cheeks can still sometimes get dry, while I forehead is shiny.
So, what I'm asking for is just ideas. Things you've tried, heard about, read about... anything. I like the idea of homemade because it's cost effective, but I'm willing to pay up for something that will actually work.
I use baking soda only once a week as an exfoliator. I read somewhere that using it more often is too rough on your skin. But I do like how it makes my skin feel.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I am kind of at a loss myself, right now. I've been doing the olive oil/castor oil thing...but I ran out and I keep forgetting to replenish. so in the meantime I've tried different things. I've tried using my baking soda hair rinse on my face (it's dissolved, so not abrasive). I've also been just washing with soap. I do use coconut oil as my moisturizer now and LOVE how it is so light and non-greasy.
usually breakouts are a sign that your skin is trying to hydrate itself, so I wouldn't work too hard on drying those zits out. I still have zits that appear, but I find that the less I fuss with stuff, the better it works. they also cycle based on my hormones. Nothing I can do about that.
I was thinking of trying dr. bronner's too.
ReplyDeleteGet prego again... it's helping me ;-)
ReplyDeleteDuring my coconut oil research I ended up gleaning stuff about other oils that seemed to be popular. I don't remember them though, but perhaps a google search about essential oils for skin?...
