We're Crazy for Dave

Dave Dave Dave Dave. He's been on our minds a lot lately. We're taking his plan serious and it's been great. Heck, we even talk to each other about money better than we've ever before. We have a goal, we know what we need to do to reach it.
At the beginning of the month we made a budget sheet that looks like this. Each box is a different account. We have our emergency fund, Ben's motorcycle account, our main savings, and our checking. For each account we have what we think we will spend, and then what we actually spent, then the total at the bottom.
Our oh so pretty budget sheet
Because we never know what our income will be each month, everything goes to savings. We pay ourselves the same amount each month so we don't have to guess. I take out a LOT of money from our checking in cash. Everything we would need for the entire month. WOW! We put that cash in envelopes like these. I found this template and I really like it because I can write down what I spent cash on the front and keep track of what is left.
The envelope system!
We're still figuring things out, but I love how things are coming together for us. I love how we have a financial plan for our future and how it DOESN'T involve debt. Debt will not be the third member of our marriage.

Why am I talking about this AGAIN? Because I was comforted by a blog post a read today that showed me the end result of why Ben and I are so crazy about being debt free. Tsh from simplemom.net just bought a house, and she and her husband have NO FICO SCORE! Say what? It means they don't have any debt. No car loans, no credit cards, NOTHING! And they still bought a house.
When Ben and I first got interested in Dave Ramsey, we actually had a few people laughed at us for our goal. We were told we needed to have some debt to buy things. But it seems ridiculous to me that we need to have debt, so you get more debt. "I need to have a credit card so I can build my score so I can get a loan for a car and a house." WHAT? You borrow money, so you can borrow MORE money. And they laugh at us for wanting to be debt free?
Anyway, just read the post from Tsh. I promise, it's great!
