You Drank WHAT?

Just got back from Dixon Rec Center. That cycling class kicked my butt! Now that I'm back home I'm dying for something to eat. I found this interesting green smoothie recipe in a magazine and I thought I would give it a try.

Green Smoothie
1 1/2 cups water
1 head romaine lettuce chopped
3-4 stalks celery
1 apple cored and chopped
1 pear cored and chopped
juice of 1/2 fresh lemon

combine in blender until smooth. makes 2-4 servings

I switched mine up a bit. I left out the celery (YUCK), added a banana for sweetness, added 1/4 cup lemon juice, and did 1/2 apple. Also added two pieces of broccoli.  Mine came out looking like a thicker green salsa, and pretty good. I still prefer fruitier tasting stuff, but I think I can tweak this one a bit and find different variations. Try it out and tell me what you think. I'm looking for sneaky ways to get my veggies in.

Kelly, I tried two batches of kale chips and FAILED. My oven is just no good. It burns everything on the bottom, when it's still doughy on top. Every single item I've cooked in that oven turns out so wrong. The kale chips burned in patches and then looked untouched in other places.

It would be awesome to be in the middle of this and hear their voices ringing through the courtyard.

  1. This is Kelly, actually...

Regarding kale chips and burned bottoms (ummm, that doesn't sound too tasty) you might need to add extra insulation. Try lowering your oven temp as it might be cooking too hot. OR if you're sure that's not it, put an extra cookie sheet on the bottom rack or even use two cookie sheets when you cook. You can also cook your food on a higher rack.

As for the green smoothie - I think the broccoli sounds gross in a smoothie. I'm just saying. Some veggies are probably not meant to be drank. ;-)
