I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I really like these pictures. For my Understanding Art class I was assigned to visit a museum in Salem and write about a piece of artwork. As part of the assignment I was to go online and research the artist. Margaretha Bootsma uses both photography and paint in her artwork. I like the mix of precision with the photography, and spontaneity with the paint.
This is the painting I chose to analyze. In the description the artist discussed where the political line is. How close to home are we willing to go? In the piece, the people playing in the water and on the beach are paying no attention at all to the massive structure looming nearby.
I also visited a faculty art show on the LBCC campus. The class was assigned to analyze a piece from the show, and I choose to do this landscape scene. It's actually two paintings, the one of the left being titled "Breath In," and on the left being 'Breath Out." Each half goes for $3000.
