What happened to the days when educating children was actually about just that, educating children? Now our public school system is 90% politics, 10% about the kids. And people wonder why I hate public school so much. Honestly, it's the last place I want my kids to be. It's all about the teachers unions and lobbyists, not about the kids. Sure there are teachers who legitimately care about their students, in fact I would say the majority of them do, but the way the teachers act with any mention of cuts, lay-offs or reform is atrocious. I'd rather avoid the system altogether and go a separate route when it comes to my own kids. When a good idea for education is presented, Congress turns it down. Because if they don't, they lose a piece of the financial pie. Who has their hands in Congress' pocket? Teachers unions. Take California for example. Teachers unions are the #1 financial supporter for political purposes. Since 2000 they've spent $211.8 million. The next highest supporter is The California State Council for Service Employees, but they didn't even come close with $107.4 million. What reason would California have for choosing a better education option when the teachers are paying them so much to keep things as they are? Educating children should be a top priority, but what it really all comes down to is politics, and that isn't fair to the kids. I am tired of cost efficient, proven methods of education being turned down. This Article only motivates me to keep my kids as far away from public schools as possible.
