December 5th was Heathers birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It was all the ward Holiday Dinner. The activities committee buys all the food and then hands it out for ward members to cook and bring to the dinner. Lots of good stuffing and three different kinds of ham and turkey. The ward choir sung and we had the Bishop give a little speech. Then plates of pie were handed out, each plate with two different slices of pie. I had a plate with a slice of apple pie and a pumpkin cheesecake. Delicious!
There has been so much ice! I tried to drive home from mom and dads and made it 20 feet from my driveway when I slid on the road and ended up facing the sidewalk. Luckily I was not on a busy road and could park there for a while. I called the house and ask mom and dad to come help me out. I had been previously having problems getting my car started in the morning, and when dad told me to turn my car on, nothing worked except that the headlights would flash. Once we charged the car it was fine, and I had dad drive and park it. I decided I wasn't going to drive anywhere until the ice melted, but the next evening was our ward temple trip. I was so nervous driving my car that night. Luckily it had been above freezing for some time and everything had melted.
I tried legitimate sushi for the first time. In the past I have gotten sushi with imitation crab from Winco, but was told it is not nearly as good as the real thing. So my friend Micah from the ward hosted a sushi party. At first I was real iffy about the salmon and tuna and I mostly stuck with eating the crab, but overall it was good. Then afterwards we had desert sushi. I'm not sure about the exact recipe, but it consisted of rice paper, rice with coconut, cinnamon, and fried bananas. So Good! We also tried mango, caramel and chocolate variations.
Monday the 21st was a friends Christmas party. We decorated gingerbread houses, exchanged white elephant gifts and watch The Grinch.
This is the gingerbread house my friend MacKenzie and I decorated. Cute, eh? I'm not really sure what happened to the house, probably got thrown away. I don't think anyone took theirs home.
So then the family arrived for Christmas. I had been sleeping at mom and dads because its warm there, but I went back to my apartment to make room for all the extra people staying at the house. It was awesome having little nieces and nephews running around, although exhausting. And I'm always excited to see Uncle Matt! His gift to me this year was pepper spray, along with a scarf and lemon grass candle that smells divine! The pepper spray cracks me up though. I'm afraid to open the package for fear of accidentally spraying someone in the face. Aunt Merilyn warned me to spray with the wind, not against it so I don't inhale it accidentally. Apparently she is speaking from experience. I also got Quicken from mom and dad. Already I can see how helpful it is going to be. I hate carrying receipts and a checkbook with me everywhere. And now I can have a little pie chart to show me where all my money is going and pay bills from the program. Grandma seemed to like the Beaver shirt I got hear. I overhead her at thanksgiving telling someone she was a Duck and a Beaver shirt because she roots for both teams.
In two weeks I leave for Utah to visit Seth. I'm excited to see what he has planned. There's been mention of Italian food and opera music, and we are definitely going to see the temple at night.
So that's been life recently. I'm not liking the anticipation of going back to school. My three classes are Lifetime Health and Fitness, General Psych, and Marriage Relationships. And I have a goal to ride my bike to school and institute. It's cold outside, but I can bundle up and I wont be riding in the morning.
And I STILL haven't started that shoulder bag I wanted to make. Maybe now that it's not so hectic from the holidays I can work on it.
